Thursday's cruise

Thursday night we set up a mini car show at Auto Valu.  They had brats, chips and root beer floats for us. Root beer floats seem to be the official drink of the car club.  They set up two tents for shade and held a customer appreciation night for their customers.  There was a lot of people looking at the cars.  We had a great turn out.  Auto Valu had a blow up mascot like the Michelin man.  I teased one of my classmates from high school who works at Auto Valu that he must have posed for the making of the mascot.  Their smiles were the same. A week and half to our car show at the high school.  Hope to see you all there.

Class of 64ever

Last week we had 22 people at our noon lunch for my graduating class and this week we had 14.  Speical guests were Tom Ohman, Ruth Andrews, Bobbie Baxster,  Leslie Hines and Gene Bakke.  Almost more out of towners then the regulars.  Tom's wife had her birthday so we had cupcakes and sang to her.  She was thrilled.  It is amaazing to me that we never run out of things to talk about.  We are hoping that Janet (Don Haugan's wife) is recovering,  She is presently in the hospital in Fargo.

Reinforcments

My friends, Ron and Judy Porter came over Monday with their truck and trailer and heled me carry the limbs from my fallen trees to the land fill.  Tallan was here and was a great help with this project.   We have made a dent in the piles of the limbs that are around my home.  We made two trips each to the landfill.  With my topper on my pick-up I can only get small loads each trip.  It would take me two weeks and many trips to finally clean up the yard.  We continued on Wednesday and finally finished this project. A shower and the 209 club with half price appetizers here we come.

Forrest Gump

The following are the goofs that where made in the movie Forrest Gump.
Jenny shows Forrest a clipping of him in U.S.A Today magazine (first published in September 1982), but on Jenny's grave it says she died on March 22 1982.

In the scene where Forrest goes and visits Jenny (and is introduced to his son), there is an iron on the ironing board in the background. It stands up, then down, then up. The child's artwork in the background also disappears.

When Forrest is talking to Jenny at her grave, he says "You died on a Saturday." But 22 March 1982 (the date on the grave) was a Monday.

When Forrest finally catches shrimp on the boat, the net drops DEAD shrimp on the deck.

I just watched this movie again for the umpteenth time.  But I actually watched to see if I could notice the above goofs.  I did.  But I still enjoyed the movie just as much as before.

corn

My corn was waist high by the Fourth of July.  You know the saying is knee high by the fourth of July.  Of course, I cheated because I  started them inside the first day of May.  Then I transplanted them into the garden the first of June.  They were 6 inches tall when I transplanted them. Now they need to tassle out and get ears.  Pete Lund told me that he only got corn by the end of July one time while he was raising corn.  I am hoping for the end of July for my first corn.  Otherwise there is no need to plant corn inside to start it.

book club

"To know yourself, to know your friends, all you need to do is knit." (Taken from the Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs.)  I have always had making myself a sweater on my bucket list.  While I was reading the Friday Night Knitting Club for the third time I got inspired to jump in.  I am the leader at book club this go around.  Whereas, I remember the story from the first two reading a long time ago I had to reread it to get the names of the people in my mind again. Now can I remember them until Monday.  Getting old is not for sissies.    Starting the sweater was the easy part.  Then I got to the inset rectangle.  I had to call on my friends to help me learn that skill. Thank goodness I know two tremendous knitters who can explain things over the phone.  They were my phone a friend like on the show The Millionaire.

In FNKC the 12 year old girl is an inspiring chef who would like to specialize in baking.  During the book she is always baking and developing new recipes.  The author included her orange, blueberry, and coconut muffin recipe.  I baked the recipe for the book club to sample her creation as we discuss the book. This should add a new dimension  to club.

"Even now, it seems unbelievable to me that by pulling together a motley collection -- soft yarn, the sharp needles, the scripted pattern, the smoothing hook, the intangibles of creativity, humanity and imagination -- you can create something that will hold a piece of your soul." (FNKC) This is the same for quilting as it for knitting or any other craft you spend time in.  Especially when you give finished project as a gift.

The clean up continues

This is a lengthy process removing the wood and debry that the storm left for me.  I had 7 trees go down in my yard.  After the major yard clean-up Thursday Pete Lund a classmate of mine from high school came over with his chain saw and made quick work of the 7 trees.  Then I hauled all the logs and piled them neatly in my front tree line. Thank goodness for my 4 wheeler and gorilla wagon. That was done as to get them away from the tree branch mess and have easier access to the lucky person that will come get my free wood. Starting Monday I will clean up the branches and haul them to the landfill.

This is approximately 1/2 a cord of wood.  A cord of wood measures 4X4X4 feet
