truth

Advice from an old Farmer:

- Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong.
- Keep skunks and bankers at a distance.
- Life is simpler when you ...plow around the stump.
- A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.
- Words that soak into your ears are whispered... not yelled.
- Meanness don't jes' happen overnight.
- Forgive your enemies; it messes up their heads.
- Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you.
- It don't take a very big person to carry a grudge.
- You cannot unsay a cruel word.
- Every path has a few puddles.
- When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.
- The best sermons are lived, not preached.
- Most of the stuff people worry about ain't never gonna happen anyway.
- Don't judge folks by their relatives.
- Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
- Live a good, honorable life... Then when you get older and think back, you'll enjoy it a second time.
- Don 't interfere with somethin' that ain't bothering you none.
- Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a Rain dance.
- If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin'.
- Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got.
- The biggest troublemaker you'll probably ever have to deal with, watches you from the mirror every mornin'.
- Always drink upstream from the herd.
- Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment.
- Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin' it back in.
- If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence, try orderin' somebody else's dog around..
- Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply.
- Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.

a friend speaks

My friend and high school class mate spoke at my homemakers club.  He has done mega amount of research on the history of Becida.  He has written one book on the subject.  He also has taken all the people that are buried in the cemetery and has collected 90% of the obituaries for them. He told the history of the formation of the government, the businesses in Becida, the people of Becida, and the transportation of that area. The quilt that he is showing is a signature quilt that was stitched originally in 1933. It was from the Ladies Aide Society of Becida.  Only one of the ladies named on the quilt is still living.  But that night of his presentation she died.  It was his aunt.   I had the honor and pleasure of restoring that quilt for him.  I had to stabilize the edges, replace the batting and back.  I quilted it by hand to keep its integrity.  All the fabrics on the front are either flour sacks, or grain sacks.

April snow

I don't know if you can see the snow in this picture, but it snowed Saturday here.  I went out to shovel and plow and found it to be what I call widow maker snow.  It was heavy with water.  Of course you have to realize that an April snow storm should actually be rain. We are expecting another storm tonight.  Snow, snow go away.

Home sport and travel show

A friend of mine and I attended the Home, sport and travel show this weekend.  We had a good time looking and collecting all the freebees.  We met up with two other friends so we went to the 209 club for supper.

The faucet pictured above is 70 years old.  I remember when they had this at the fair when I was young.   As a kid I really marveled at it.  I was so excited when I saw it at the show.  The igloo is a cover for a hot tub so you can use it year around.

turkeys

I finally got good pictures of the turkeys that live near my house.  I see them every week on the way into Bemidji.  They where not here in the 50's when I was growing up so I am really excited to see them.  I was told that the turkeys were planted by a government program similar to the wolf.

quilting and a lunch

This is the lunch that my quilter friend made the day that I came to help her cut out her quilt.  Her quilt was a combination of fabrics and minkie for a beautiful baby quilt.  It is a beautiful combination of blues pinks, purples and  yellows.  We got the entire quilt cut out in an hour and a half.  Now the work starts to put it together and tie it.
