Sale

Wilda loves garage sales.  This year it was not the usual high traffic for the first hour or so.  What happened was a nice slow steady flow of customer all day.  It was very manageable.  It is a multi party rummage sale.  I only had three items in the sale.  I still have Saturday until noon or so to sell them all.  So far only the foot stool has sold.  I really thought maybe a dollar was stretching it on the price.  But then who knows what the buyers are looking  for.  It was an usual day hot one moment and the coat worthy the next.  You know to old saying if you don' like the weather in Minnesota just wait five minutes it'll change.

Pre garage sale



After our tour around Nielsen Place were drove out to the pre-garage sale.  We were able to purchase a few things.  I had only 3 items in the sale.  The worst one was the black ottoman had a dollar on it and it sold.  One man's junk is another man's treasure.   I was sure that one man's junk was another man's junk, but I guess I was wrong. All in all it was a great day.  Even when I returned home and had to back the Green Bean into my steel building and parallel park it in the stall next to the entrance.

Once every year we put on a car show and parade for the residents of Nielsen Place.  We slowly go around the building so people can see the cars.  When we park and talk to the residents we get a lot of questions and some have memories of owning a car that is similar to yours.  This year a man came up to me and reminisced about his 79 Buick.  According to him it was the same except I have a sun roof.  Other members have the same experience.  This year I happen to be by my car when a wheel chair went wild.  He came about two inches from crashing into my car fender.  I caught him and asked if I could help him as I was getting him back a employee came out of the crowd and got him back on track.  I saw two things in his eyes, fear and embarrassment.  I am glad I happen to be there to help him.  We then eat rootbeer floats with the along with the residents.  I love this evening.  But we are not done.  You'll have to wait for the pre-garage sale to hear the rest of the story.

The Knitwits on our lunch date at the Laporte Grocery then stopped at one of our members cabins.  It is located on the West side of Lake Plantagenet.  She had fixed a delicious ice cream dessert for us,  After starting the coffee she started a fire both in the fireplace and the wood stove.  It wasn't long and it was very cozy in the cabin.  She told the history of the cabin during the forty years that she and her husband owned it. We continued our story telling and had many laughs.  Sadly our day came to an end, but not before we planned our next outing in July.  Not only can we knit and crochet, but we can visit and socialize and generally play too.   

Knitters eat in Laporte

 

This is our second year to go to Laporte for lunch in the grocery store.    It is still fun.  The menu is also the order form.  I have pictured it for you.  Our knitters are a close knit group.  No pun intended.   We really enjoy being together.  We were joined by our former pastors wife whom was part of our knitters in the past.  We had seen her for a year and had a lot to catch up on.  We have been struggling to find a name for ourselves.  We have thought of many, but I think we have finally chosen.  We are the First Lutheran knitwits.  Whereas this is not original, I think the explanation is.  The full name is the knitwits: witness by busy hands.  Anyway I continue this story with prayer.  While we waited for our food I noticed that four men who had called in there ordered sat down near us.  They got there food and one of the men lead them in prayer.  When  we got our food we sang our table grace.  There where only three tables of people there and 2 out of three said a prayer before eating.  I really think that was a cool thing to witness.  We are not through yet.  Catch the blog entitled " Dessert at the Cabin."

labyrinth

First Lutheran Church has a Labyrinth.  We had a class on the use of the labyrinth.  A labyrinth is unicursal - one path.  The way in is the same as the way out.  It is different than a maze which is like a puzzle which twists and turns and has dead ends.  You must find your way out of a maze.  A labyrinth is a tool to be used in spiritual meditation.  There is no right way to walk a labyrinth.  There are three parts of walking the labyrinth.  Going in, the center and leaving.  The easiest explanation of the three parts is:

 Going In -- Releasing ( A time to quiet and empty the mind)

The center -- Receiving (A place of meditation and Prayer)

Leaving --  feeling Right  (completes the journey)

Our heart is known by the path we walk.

The Bemidji Area Church Musicians

This is the 26th season of church concerts.  Wednesday was the first of these.  There are 12 more this summer.  this concert was Eric Haugen on the cello.    Along with the concert there is a lunch.  It was First Lutheran's turn to host this concert and lunch.   We served 4 salads, bread and 2 types of bars.  The lunch was $5.   What a wonderful program.   I helped with the lunch, but had to go the presentation of the Labyrinth immediately following the lunch. Bemidji does a great job of supporting the arts.
