Minnesota

A friend of mine sent me this picture.  I was amazed.  I am trying to figure out how many people it took to load this and I wonder what the car looks like after it is removed.  I am not sure that a car has the strength to hold that load.  It is interesting what people do.  I am sure I would not try this.  What about you???

thankless

The month of December I decided to do a random act of kindness everyday until Christmas Day.   Most of them went well but several of the days didn't.  It still is a mystery to me how when kindness is shown to another person and I am saying going out of ones way type of kindness, that kindness is not returned.  In fact they expect more from a person.  Not even a simple thank you is extended.  It is very difficult to function in this world where ungratefulness is the main theme.

Football and the Blonde
Of all the blonde jokes, this one has to be the best -- because it makes football make sense!

A guy took his blonde girlfriend to her first football game. They had great seats right behind their team's bench.

After the game, he asked her how she liked it.

"Oh, I really liked it," she replied, "especially the tight pants and all the big muscles, but I just couldn't understand why they were killing each other over 25 cents."

Dumbfounded, her boyfriend asked, "What do you mean?"

"Well, they flipped a coin, one team got it and then for the rest of the game, all they kept screaming was... 'Get the quarterback! Get the quarterback!' I'm like...Helloooooo? It's only 25 cents!!!!"

Homemakers Valentine Party

Monday night I attended my homemakers Valentine Party.  We serve a potluck dinner and the spouses were invited.  We do an exchange of gifts with our secret pal.  I got a makeup pouch, pink striped socks, a bag of chocolates and a Wilton pan that you can make heart cookies on sticks.  I'll have to find the sticks, I think Wal*mart and Ben Franklin both sell them.  How much fun will that be making bouquets of cookies.  The food was delicious and we all had a great time.   We planned our Easter craft which will be bunnies made from tuna cans.  I'll do a story next month on that so you can see our bunnies.

embroidery

I offered to help out a fellow quilter.  She is making a quilt for her son's up coming wedding. She needed embroidery done on two of the blocks.  Now my machine is a small one  and it limited in what can be done the blocks actually turned out quite well.  I was worried but I surely didn't need to be.  I really felt that she was a perfectionist like many quilter are and that I would not be able to deliver to the standard that she held.  I sent her the pictures and she text back that she loved them.  I came close to trading my machine on a bigger one, but now I know that it would be a waste off money and I would not use it enough.  My old brother is good enough.

TRUTH

Just read something that I can't get out of my head and wanted to share. So the setting is right after 9-11 and the main character says " I just wish life was more like my books.. Main characters never die in books." Her friend says....... "Everyone is a main character to someone. They might be just another person to you and I, but to someone they are everything." Everyone is a main character to someone.....

WDP

Now I am at the third meeting that I had at the church on Wednesday.  First was quilting, second was the over 80's party planning meeting and now it is the world Day of Prayer planning meeting.  We will be studying Egypt.  All the church come together to plan this event and it is First Lutherans turn to host it.  My friend and I are the coordinators only because the gals that were to do it both due to circumstances with drew from the job.  We will be having a snack afterward.  Of course coffee and food goes with everything we do at the church.  WDP is going to be March 7th at the church.  Since I have moved back I have gone to it each year.  It is a great day especially when you realize that all over the world there are women in pray with the same thoughts as yours.  How powerful is that.

planning meeting

Recently we held the planning meeting for the celebration at our church for the over 80 ladies.  We are doing a Spring Fling and will play bingo for our program.  Three circles plan it and my circle is in charge of the food.  The ladies really look forward to our party.  During the party we also acknowledge those ladies that have passed this year.   All in all we have a great time.

League

Recently  I decided to join the Headwaters Quilting Guild.  I met my classmate's  wife there and was very warmly accepted into the fold.  Four years ago I had tried to join the other guild in Bemidji, but did not have the same experience.  We had dinner as it was combination Valentine and Christmas dinner.  It was great.  We are engaged in making a quilt for the Senior Center as a money maker.  The senior center is financially in trouble.   They have been cut funds from the state and may not make it another year in operation. That would be a shame.

This is during show and tell and is a T-shirt quilt

Things are not what they appear to be

Fantastic true story A woman was flying from Seattle to San Francisco. Unexpectedly, the plane was diverted to Sacramento along the way. The flight att...endant explained that there would be a delay, and if the passengers wanted to get off the aircraft the plane would re-board in 50 minutes... Everybody got off the plane except one lady who was blind... A man had noticed her as he walked by and could tell the lady was blind because her guide dog lay quietly underneath the seats in front of her throughout the entire flight... He could also tell she had flown this very flight before because the pilot approached her, and calling her by name, said, "Kathy, we are in Sacramento for almost an hour, would you like to get off and stretch your legs?" The blind lady said, "No thanks, but maybe Buddy would like to stretch his legs." All the people in the gate area came to a complete stand still when they looked up and saw the pilot walk off the plane with a guide dog for the blind! Even worse, the pilot was wearing sunglasses! People scattered. They not only tried to change planes, but they were trying to change airlines! Two tips for the day… 1. Things are not always as they appear and 2. A day without laughter is a day wasted.

Confirmation quilts

Our quilting group at church has the job of making 11 quilts for the teens that are being confirmed on April 27, 2014.  The committee decided to make all the quilts the same and make no distinction between sexes.  The are black with a gray print and a plain gray block.  When they are finished they will be spectacular.  The ladies that tie them will decided on the accent color -- red, white or black thread color.  It is a group project.

sunrise

This is one of the reasons that we chose to live in this cold country.  The spectacular beauty that can surprise us on a daily basis.  This picture is looking out my front picture window.  The picture does not do it justice, but is it a beautiful representation.  I think all of us can see beauty around us if we would just take the time to look.

wolf

The day before I left for Jamestown for Christmas I decided that my wolf fur hood trim needed brushing.  I got it in 1973 and have had it on various coats.  I brushed it and then the next day I set out for Jamestown.  On the way I could feel that I was in the throws of a major allergy attack.  I waited until I got to Jamestown before I took a benadyrl tablet to bring my histamine count down.  Can't take those and expect to drive.  I told my son I just can for the life of me decide why I am having an attack.  The pill took affect and I was feeling great.  When I got home I was hanging up my jacket and saw my other coat and it clicked.  I am highly allergic to dog dander so the 40 year old wolf hide had set off the attack.

BEC

I had a high pitched buzzing noise coming from my furnace room.  I was not sure if it came from my electric furnace or my propane furnace or from the converter that changes them back and forth when I am rippled.  I called BEC and a technician came out very quickly as they thought it was probably a dangerous situation.  We come to find out that on my electric furnace I have a sensor that will emit a high pitched tone when the furnace is overheating and the walls and the rest of the ducting can not cool off.  The problem was due to the filter as it was  restricting air  hence it could not cool down.  The sensor would send the alarm and shut off the furnace.  He pulled the filter and showed me that it actually fixed the problem.  He told me to go buy a less restrictive filter.  So off  I went after knitting and found the task troubling.  First,  I looked at construction of the filters offered.  Then I looked at price.  I finally chose by price.  I found filter that cost 2 dollars for four filters.  I knew I had come across the least restrictive filters.  All is working well.

dinner

Recently, I gave a sewing machine to my nephew girlfriend's third grader.  I told them that it came with lessons.  This week I was invited for dinner and to give lessons after we ate.  We had a half an hour lesson on threading the top threads, the bobbin, presser foot lifting and the hand wheel. The she told me she had been breaking needles and right away I knew that she was hold the fabric back to control it.  So the first thing I had her do was to run fabric through the machine with no thread.  She saw how the machine will actually took fed the fabric through.  Then I had her add her hands to direct the fabric and she caught on to that fast.  We then sew 16 block together that I had left over from a rag quilt.   When she was done I told her I would clip it for her while she took a shower and to scrub good but hurry back.  I was done with the clipping when she came down stairs.  Her mother washed it and then put it in the dryer to make the edges rag.  Here is the posting on Face book from her mother.

Thank you so much for coming over for dinner and a lesson tonight! (Her daughter) is all snuggled up with her new "quilt" I am not sure she will share it with her doll after all she is so excited and proud of it.

Dave story

I was doing some cleaning and found this picture.  It is a picture of my brother and his friend at
Red Lake.  In the picture they are being towed into shore by my son and my two nephews.  It seems they were having motor troubles.  Anyway I took the picture and forgot about it until I got home to Beach.  Then I thought it was such a great picture that I would have it printed into a 8X10 for them.  But when I began to enlarge the photo I saw an ad the you could make fake magazine covers, so I made two copies that  looked  like the real deal.  The magazine  was called Outdoor Fishing.  The next time I was in Bemidji I gave the photos to the two, Dave and Dennis.  I didn't say it was a fake just that I had found this magazine and their picture was on the front cover.  They took the bait and spent three or four weeks discussing how that magazine could have possibly got that picture.  When I returned again that summer for a visit I fessed up.  They totally thought they had had their 15 minutes of fame.

Looking

WHEN YOU THOUGHT I WASN'T LOOKING A message every adult should read because children are watching you and doing as you do, not as you say. When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator, and I immediately wanted to paint another one. When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you feed a stray cat, and I learned that it was good to be kind to animals. When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you make my favorite cake for me, and I learned that the little things can be the special things in life. When you thought I wasn't looking I heard you say a prayer, and I knew that there is a God I could always talk to, and I learned to trust in Him.. When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you make a meal and take it to a friend who was sick, and I learned that we all have to help take care of each other. When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you take care of our house and everyone in it, and I learned we have to take care of what we are given. When you thought I wasn't looking I saw how you handled your responsibilities, even when you didn't feel good, and I learned that I would have to be responsible when I grow up. When you thought I wasn't looking I saw tears come from your eyes, and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it's all right to cry. When you thought I wasn't looking I saw that you cared, and I wanted to be everything that I could be. When you thought I wasn't looking I learned most of life's lessons that I need to know to be a good and productive person when I grow up. When you thought I wasn't looking I looked at you and wanted to say,  'Thanks for all the things I saw when you thought I wasn't looking.'  Each of us (parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, teacher, friend) influences the life of a child. How will you touch the life of someone today?  Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God. One of my all-time favorites. It's never too late. Stop. Look.....and LISTEN.

onion

Raw ONION on bottom of the feet to take away illness. During the night, I started feeling good. I mean really good! I felt tingly, like my blood was being cleansed (it was). It was so cool! My bedroom smells like a casserole, but it was totally worth it! ***Here is the deal::: So last night Evan (11) was keeping everyone awake with his cough. I got up, went to the kitchen and sliced a purple, make me cry onion, at 3am. I got some snug socks and put it on the bottom of his feet. To boost my own immunity, I decided to try this too. During the rest of the night, I started feeling good. I mean really good! I felt tingly, like my blood was being cleansed. It was so cool! This works in 2 ways. 1.) Onions are known to absorb toxins. In fact, during the days of the Plague in England, folks would keep chopped onions around to absorb toxins and clean the air. This helped protect them, against getting the plague. NEVER SAVE AN ONION. It will absorb all the toxins in the air of your refrigerator. Eat that and you eat the toxins. Instead: Chop your left over onion, put it on a plate and keep it in your kitchen as a natural air purifier. I do this all the time! If someone is ill, place a chopped onion on the night stand, next to the bed. They'll be better in the morning. I placed the remaining onion, next to Evan last night. Onions are toxin absorbers. Thus why they are great internal mops for the body. Eat plenty of onions! 2.) The onion and garlic families are anti-microbial and anti-bacterial. Placing them on the bottom of the foot gives them access to your internal organs through meridians in your body. The onion can be directly delivered. Transdermal delivery (on the skin) is one of the best delivery mechanisms, as it will bypass the stomach acids and go directly into the blood. The bottom of the feet and the forearm are great places to put high powered foods and essential oils into the body. Sliced garlic on the bottom of the feet will work nicely too. Evan woke up cough free and hopped on the bus this morning. Happy kid. Happy mom. Lisa Wilson, The Raw Food Institute

Amazing

Three friends married women from different parts of the country.
The first man married a woman from the North. He told her that she was to do the dishes and house cleaning. It took a couple of days, but on the third day, he came home to see a clean house and dishes washed and put away.
The second man married a woman from the West. He gave his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes and the cooking. The first day he didn't see any results, but the next day he saw it was better. By the third day, he saw his house was clean, the dishes were done, and there was a huge dinner on the table.
The third man married a girl from the Louisiana. He ordered her to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed, and hot meals on the table for every meal. He said the first day he didn't see anything, the second day he didn't see anything but by the third day, some of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye, and his arm was healed enough that he could fix himself a sandwich and load the dishwasher. He still has some difficulty when he pees.

Dust if you must

Dust if you must, but wouldn't it be better
to paint a picture or write a letter,
Bake a cake or plant a seed,
Ponder the difference between want and need?

Dust if you must, but there's not much time,
With rivers to swim and mountains to climb,
Music to hear and books to read,
Friends to cherish and life to lead.

Dust if you must, but the world's out there,
With the sun in your eyes, the wind in your hair,
A flutter of snow, a shower of rain
This day will not come around again.

Dust if you must, but bear in mind
Old age will come and it not kind,
And when you go -- and go you must,
You yourself, will make more dust.

For me I will knit, quilt and motorcycle.

Breakfast at McDonald's

This is a good story and is true, please read it all the way through until the end!

I am a mother of three (ages 14, 12, 3) and have recently completed my college degree.

The last class I had to take was Sociology.

The teacher was absolutely inspiring with the qualities that I wish every human being had been graced with.

Her last project of the term was called, 'Smile.'

The class was asked to go out and smile at three people and document their reactions.

I am a very friendly person and always smile at everyone and say hello anyway. So, I thought this would be a piece of cake,

Literally.

Soon after we were assigned the project, my husband, youngest son, and I went out to McDonald's one crisp March morning.

It was just our way of sharing special playtime with our son.

We were standing in line, waiting to be served, when all of a sudden everyone around us began to back away, and then

Even my husband did.

I did not move an inch... An overwhelming feeling of panic welled up inside of me as I turned to see why they had moved.

As I turned around I smelled a horrible 'dirty body' smell, and there standing behind me were two poor homeless men.

As I looked down at the short gentleman, close to me, he was 'smiling'

His beautiful sky blue eyes were full of God's Light as he searched f or acceptance....

He said, 'Good day' as he counted the few coins he had been clutching..

The second man fumbled with his hands as he stood behind his friend. I realized the second man was mentally challenged and the blue-eyed gentleman was his salvation.

I held my tears as I stood there with them.

The young lady at the counter asked him what they wanted.

He said, 'Coffee is all Miss' because that was all they could afford. (If they wanted to sit in the restaurant and warm up, they had to buy something. He just wanted to be warm).

Then I really felt it - the compulsion was so great I almost reached out and embraced the little man with the blue eyes..

That is when I noticed all eyes in the

Restaurant were set on me, judging

My every action.

I smiled and asked the young lady behind the counter to give me two more breakfast meals on a separate tray.

I then walked around the corner to the table that the men had chosen as a resting spot. I put the tray on the table and laid my hand on the blue-eyed gentleman's cold hand.

He looked up at me, with tears in his eyes, and said, 'Thank you.'

I leaned over, began to pat his hand and said, 'I did not do this for you.. God is here working through me to give you hope.'

I started to cry as I walked away to join my husband and son.... When I sat down my husband smiled at me and said, 'That is why God gave you to me, Honey, to give me hope..'

We held hands for a moment and at that time, we knew that only because of the Grace that we had been given were we able to give.

We are not church goers, but we are believers.

That day showed me the pure Light of God's sweet love.

I returned to college, on the last evening of class, with this story in hand.

I turned in 'my project' and the instructor read it.

Then she looked up at me and said, 'Can I share this?'

I slowly nodded as she got the attention of the class.

She began to read and that is when I knew that we as human beings and being part of God share this need to heal people and to be healed.

In my own way I had touched the people at McDonald's, my son, the instructor, and every soul that shared the classroom on the last night I spent as a college student.

I graduated with one of the biggest lessons I would ever learn:

UNCONDITIONAL ACCEPTANCE.

Much love and compassion is sent to each and every person who may read this and learn how to

LOVE PEOPLE AND USE THINGS -

NOT LOVE THINGS AND USE PEOPLE.

There is an Angel sent to watch over you.

An Angel wrote:

Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart

To handle yourself, use your head..

To handle others, use your heart.

God Gives every bird it's food, but He does not throw it into its nest.

Hug certificate

If I could catch a rainbow
I would do it just for you
And share with you its beauty
On the days you're feeling blue.

If I could build a mountain
    You could call your very own;
    A place to find serenity,
    A place to be alone.

If I could take your troubles
I would toss them in the sea,
But all these things, I'm finding,
    Are impossible for me.

    I cannot build a mountain
    Or catch a rainbow fair,
But let me be what I know best,
    A friend who's always there..

    This is a Hug Certificate!!

    Life is a coin,
You can spend it anyway you wish,
But you can only spend it once.

Do not miss an opportunity to tell your friends you care

Peanut butter

Today, January 24, 2014, is National Peanut Butter Day.  I thought that it would be appropriate to mention it in my blog.   As you know the address for my blog is gobs of peanut butter.
National Peanut Butter Day Peanut butter is a staple in over 90% of American households and the average person consumes more than six pounds of peanut products each year. Women and children prefer creamy peanut butter, while most men go for the chunky variety.George Bayle, a St. Louis snack food maker, started making peanut butter in the 1890s. For many years, manufacturers struggled with the oil separating from the grainy solids of the peaut butter. In 1923 Heinz became the first company to homogenize the peanuts into the spreadable butter we know and love today. Before long peanut butter was a classic American food.  Did you know that it takes 550 peanuts to make a 12 ounce jar of peanut butter?   Peanuts are cholesterol free and an excellent source of protein. In fact, it’s the high protein content that causes peanut butter to stick to the roof of your mouth.  To celebrate National Peanut Butter Day, bake some peanut butter cookies, spread some tasty peanut butter on toast, or enjoy a spoonful right out of the jar.

direct tv

My Paul Bunyan TV has been blurry and jumpy, so I have gone to direct  TV.
The technician was here Tuesday to install the dish.  It was cold, but not too unbearable. I have 140 channels, a DBR recorder and many other features.  The best part is the clearity of the picture. I cannot believe the difference in the picture quality.  I really think I will like it.  When I record a show and want to change rooms I just have to pause it and go to another TV and continue watching it.  I really will be spoiled now.

Abbott and Costello

Remember when the world was a simpler place and you went to movies just to laugh? Bud and Lou were one of the best.

COSTELLO BUYS A COMPUTER
This is TOO good! Yes, this IS what they
would do if they were still here!
Read on:
You have to be old enough to remember
Abbott and Costello, and too old to REALLY
understand computers, to fully appreciate
this.
If Bud Abbott and Lou Costello were alive
today, their infamous sketch, 'Who's on
First?' might have turned out something
like this:
COSTELLO CALLS TO BUY A COMPUTER FROM
ABBOTT
ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I
            help you?
COSTELLO: Thanks I'm setting up an office
in my den and I'm thinking about buying a
           computer.
ABBOTT: Mac?
COSTELLO: No, the name's Lou.
ABBOTT: Your computer?
COSTELLO: I don't own a computer. I want
          to buy one.
ABBOTT: Mac?
COSTELLO: I told you, my name's Lou.
ABBOTT: What about Windows?
COSTELLO: Why? Will it get stuffy in here?
ABBOTT: Do you want a computer with
            Windows?
COSTELLO: I don't know. What will I see
when I look at the windows?
ABBOTT: Wallpaper.
COSTELLO: Never mind the windows.. I need
           a computer and software.
ABBOTT: Software for Windows?
COSTELLO: No. On the computer! I need           something I can use to write proposals,
track expenses and run my business. What
           do you have?
ABBOTT: Office.
COSTELLO: Yeah, for my office. Can you
            recommend anything?
ABBOTT: I just did.
COSTELLO: You just did what?
ABBOTT: Recommend something.
COSTELLO: You recommended something?
ABBOTT: Yes.
COSTELLO: For my office?
ABBOTT: Yes.
COSTELLO: OK, what did you recommend for           my office?
ABBOTT: Office.
COSTELLO: Yes, for my office!
ABBOTT: I recommend Office with Windows..
COSTELLO: I already have an office with
windows! OK, let's just say I'm sitting at
my computer and I want to type a proposal.
           What do I need?
 ABBOTT: Word.
COSTELLO: What word?
ABBOTT: Word in Office.
COSTELLO: The only word in office is
            office.
ABBOTT: The Word in Office for Windows.
COSTELLO: Which word in office for
            windows?
ABBOTT: The Word you get when you click
            the blue 'W'.
COSTELLO: I'm going to click your blue 'w'
if you don't start with some straight
            answers. What about financial bookkeeping?
You have anything I can track my money
           with?
ABBOTT: Money.
COSTELLO: That's right. What do you have?
ABBOTT: Money.
COSTELLO: I need money to track my money?
ABBOTT: It comes bundled with your
            computer.
COSTELLO: What's bundled with my
            computer?

ABBOTT: Money.

COSTELLO: Money comes with my computer?

ABBOTT: Yes. No extra charge.

COSTELLO: I get a bundle of money with my
            computer? How much?

ABBOTT: One copy.

COSTELLO: Isn't it illegal to copy money?

ABBOTT: Microsoft gave us a license to
            copy Money.

COSTELLO: They can give you a license to
            copy money?

ABBOTT: Why not? THEY OWN IT!
            (A few days later)

ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I
           help you?
COSTELLO: How do I turn my computer off?

ABBOTT: Click on 'START'.............

new electronics

This is my wifi

This is my wireless landline
When I moved to Bemidji I was issued a phone number from Paul Bunyan.  That number was for a beauty supply company that has since moved to Florida.  I would get numerous calls because it is still listed on the internet and probably will always be on any google search for beauty supply products.  I still was taking a call or two a day for there products .  When I was in the Verizon store they showed me the wireless wifi and the wireless land line phone and I instantly fell in love with it.  It costs are 20 dollars a month for unlimited long distance calls.  So I went that way.  Then I have been toying with changing my television to direct TV.  I have for a long time tried to convince PB that I should be able to get internet and television from them without having their telephone.  But it is their policy to have all three bundled together.   When I got rid of my Paul Bunyan number I had to get rid of my internet and television connection too.  So I got the wireless wifi box pictured above.  It powers my tablet, phone and computer with internet for a low cost.  The nice thing about all of this is that  I can take them anywhere there is Verizon service and have wifi and have my telephone.  It truly amazes me what technology does.  If I go to a hotel  or lets say a cabin at Red Lake I could have internet and my home phone with me.   Amazing.

Fishing

Thursday Jamon drove over from Jamestown in that blizzard.  He did not have any trouble except for 15 miles by Moorhead.  It was white out conditions.  He said he would not do that again.  He drove at reduced speeds most of the trip.  His goal was to fish Red with his cousins.  He got here around 6:00 and we went to the Ground Round for dinner.   Early Friday they all went to the cabin.  It is nice that Rik has a plow on his truck as the cabin was really surrounded by deep snow.  They fished, eat and told stories the entire weekend.   They got their limits and I even scored a mess of Red Lake Walleye.

knitting

We had our dessert at knitting.  One of our gals brought cake and ice cream and we continued our farewell to our friend at knitting.  We had an impromptu demonstration on arm knitting a scarf.   We  always have such great times with our knitters.  We, of course, had show and tell about our projects and had many laughs.     We met in the library at our church.

good bye

Our circle to going to miss one of our members.  This is her farewell lunch at Minnesota Nice.  She is moving to St. Cloud where she bought a Town House.  Our circle enjoyed having her at our meeting and becoming a part of our lives.  Hopefully we won't lose her forever.  With Email we just might be able to maintain a long distance friendship.  Our circle pictured is missing the snow birds and one member who had an injury.  Oh, we weren't done partying after lunch so read on tomorrow to find where we had dessert.

moving on

It seems that I have finally let go and moved on.  I have had this computer for over 20 years.  I only used it to print.  Somehow I never thought to hook up my lap top to the printer.
But I tried it this morning and guess what it worked.  I have moved my white elephant out to the garage waiting for my first trip to the transfer station to dump it off.  I will now have my computer that I use in my office that I will use fully.  I have my phone and my pad up stairs for quick look up on google search.  But when I am writing and posting my blog it will happen in the my office.  It only took me 4 years to start to realize the potential on a real office.

combined circle

We studied Abigail at our bible study this week.  As I have said before we are studying the women of the Bible.  I don't think I was the only one that had not heard very much about Abigail's story.  King David came to her husband for food for he and his men.  Her husband turn him away.  Then Abigail gathered together food and brought it to King David.  He was on his way to destroy her family and community.  She single handedly stop David with this move.  Her husband hearing this fell over dead.  She then marries King David.  She was his second wife.  We really had a lively discussion of this women's feats.  She is not mentioned again in the Bible.  I really enjoyed this small  glimpse of Abigail.

Homemakers

My homemakers met this week for our monthly meeting.  Our agenda was to plan our Easter craft and to plan our valentine dinner.  Of course we could not plan our Easter craft as we went to the well and it was dry.  We are planning to get ideas for our next meeting.  Our speaker was Kelly Jo Zellmann.  She is a Registered, Licensed Dietitian.  She spoke on all aspects of diet, but mostly centered on Coconut oil and its benefits. It was intesting and informative.  Of course, we had lunch afterwards.

A Minnesota Poem

It is winter in Minnesota,
And the gentle breezes blow.
Seventy miles an hour,
At thirty-five below.

Oh, how I love Minnesota,
When the snow's up to your butt.
You take a breath of winter air
And your nose gets frozen shut.

Yes, the weather here is wonderful,
So I guess I'll hang around.
I could never  leave Minnesota,
"Cause I'm frozen to the ground!

Welcome to Minnesota, where it is colder than on Mars.

jax

I have been in a real dark cloud for the last 3-4 months.  It is really hard to pull yourself out a funk.  But my recent visit to Jamestown has turned everything around and I can see the brighter side of life.  The pictures are a little late in being shared but this is Jax at Christmas.

peace

Don't let people pull you into their storm, pull them into your peace.

Philippians 4: 6-7
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

coins

COINS LEFT ON TOMBSTONES
...
While visiting some cemeteries you may notice that headstones marking certain graves have coins on them, left by previous visitors to the grave.

These coins have distinct meanings when left on the headstones of those who gave their life while serving in America's military, and these meanings vary depending on the denomination of coin.

A coin left on a headstone or at the grave site is meant as a message to the deceased soldier's family that someone else has visited the grave to pay respect. Leaving a penny at the grave means simply that you visited.

A nickel indicates that you and the deceased trained at boot camp together, while a dime means you served with him in some capacity. By leaving a quarter at the grave, you are telling the family that you were with the solider when he was killed.

According to tradition, the money left at graves in national cemeteries and state veterans cemeteries is eventually collected, and the funds are put toward maintaining the cemetery or paying burial costs for indigent veterans.

In the US, this practice became common during the Vietnam war, due to the political divide in the country over the war; leaving a coin was seen as a more practical way to communicate that you had visited the grave than contacting the soldier's family, which could devolve into an uncomfortable argument over politics relating to the war.

Some Vietnam veterans would leave coins as a "down payment" to buy their fallen comrades a beer or play a hand of cards when they would finally be reunited.

The tradition of leaving coins on the headstones of military men and women can be traced to as far back as the Roman Empire.

half full

A psychologist walked around a room while teaching stress management to an audience. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they’d be asked the “half... empty or half full” question. Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired: “How heavy is this glass of water?” Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz. She replied, “The absolute weight doesn’t matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it’s not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my arm. If I hold it for a day, my arm will feel numb and paralyzed. In each case, the weight of the glass doesn't change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.” She continued, “The stresses and worries in life are like that glass of water. Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and they begin to hurt. And if you think about them all day long, you will feel paralyzed – incapable of doing anything.” Remember to put the glass down.

Saints words

Keep warm my friends

A Hindu saint, who was visiting river Ganges to take bath, found a group of family members on the banks, shouting in anger at each other. He turned to his disciples smiled and asked.
"Why do people shout in anger shout at each other?"

Dis...ciples thought for a while, one of them said, "Because we lose our calm, we shout."

"But, why should you shout when the other person is just next to you? You can as well tell him what you have to say in a soft manner," asked the saint.

Disciples gave some other answers but none satisfied the other disciples. Finally the saint explained...

"When two people are angry at each other, their hearts distance a lot. To cover that distance they must shout to be able to hear each other. The angrier they are, the stronger they will have to shout to hear each other to cover that great distance.

What happens when two people fall in love? They don’t shout at each other but talk softly, Because their hearts are very close. The distance between them is either nonexistent or very small…"

The saint continued, "When they love each other even more, what happens? They do not speak, only whisper and they get even closer to each other in their love. Finally they even need not whisper, they only look at each other and that’s all. That is how close two people are when they love each other."

He looked at his disciples and said. "So when you argue do not let your hearts get distant, Do not say words that distance each other more, Or else there will come a day when the distance is so great that you will not find the path to return.

Priceless

Billy Graham was returning to Charlotte after a speaking engagement and when his plane arrived there was a limousine there to transport him to his... home. As he prepared to get into the limo, he stopped and spoke to the driver. 'You know' he said, 'I am 87 years old and I have never Driven a limousine. Would you mind if I drove it for a while?' The driver said, 'No problem. Have at it.' Billy gets into the driver's seat and they head off down the highway. A short distance away sat a rookie State Trooper operating his first speed trap. The long black limo went by him doing 70 in a 55 mph zone. The trooper pulled out and easily caught the limo then got out of his patrol car to begin the procedure. The young trooper walked up to the driver's door and when the glass was rolled down, he was surprised to see who was driving. He immediately excused himself and went back to his car and called his supervisor. 'I know we are supposed to enforce the law.... but I also know that important people are given certain courtesies. I need to know what I should do because I have stopped a very important person.' The supervisor asked, 'Is it the governor?' The young trooper said, 'No, he's more important than that.' The supervisor said, 'Oh, so it's the president.' The young trooper said, 'No, he's even more Important than that.' After a moment, the supervisor finally asked, 'Well then, who is it?' The young trooper said, 'I think it's Jesus, because he's got Billy Graham for a chauffeur!

Beautiful

A sweet lesson on patience. A NYC Taxi driver wrote: I arrived at the address and honked the horn. After waiting a few minutes I honked again. Since this was ...going to be my last ride of my shift I thought about just driving away, but instead I put the car in park and walked up to the door and knocked.. 'Just a minute', answered a frail, elderly voice. I could hear something being dragged across the floor. After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her 90's stood before me. She was wearing a print dress and a pillbox hat with a veil pinned on it, like somebody out of a 1940's movie. By her side was a small nylon suitcase. The apartment looked as if no one had lived in it for years. All the furniture was covered with sheets. There were no clocks on the walls, no knickknacks or utensils on the counters. In the corner was a cardboard box filled with photos and glassware. 'Would you carry my bag out to the car?' she said. I took the suitcase to the cab, then returned to assist the woman. She took my arm and we walked slowly toward the curb. She kept thanking me for my kindness. 'It's nothing', I told her.. 'I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother to be treated.' 'Oh, you're such a good boy, she said. When we got in the cab, she gave me an address and then asked, 'Could you drive through downtown?' 'It's not the shortest way,' I answered quickly.. 'Oh, I don't mind,' she said. 'I'm in no hurry. I'm on my way to a hospice. I looked in the rear-view mirror. Her eyes were glistening. 'I don't have any family left,' she continued in a soft voice..'The doctor says I don't have very long.' I quietly reached over and shut off the meter. 'What route would you like me to take?' I asked. For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked as an elevator operator. We drove through the neighborhood where she and her husband had lived when they were newlyweds She had me pull up in front of a furniture warehouse that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a girl. Sometimes she'd ask me to slow in front of a particular building or corner and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing. As the first hint of sun was creasing the horizon, she suddenly said, 'I'm tired. Let's go now'. We drove in silence to the address she had given me. It was a low building, like a small convalescent home, with a driveway that passed under a portico. Two orderlies came out to the cab as soon as we pulled up. They were solicitous and intent, watching her every move. They must have been expecting her. I opened the trunk and took the small suitcase to the door. The woman was already seated in a wheelchair. 'How much do I owe you?' She asked, reaching into her purse. 'Nothing,' I said 'You have to make a living,' she answered. 'There are other passengers,' I responded. Almost without thinking, I bent and gave her a hug.She held onto me tightly. 'You gave an old woman a little moment of joy,' she said. 'Thank you.' I squeezed her hand, and then walked into the dim morning light.. Behind me, a door shut. It was the sound of the closing of a life.. I didn't pick up any more passengers that shift. I drove aimlessly lost in thought. For the rest of that day, I could hardly talk. What if that woman had gotten an angry driver,or one who was impatient to end his shift? What if I had refused to take the run, or had honked once, then driven away? On a quick review, I don't think that I have done anything more important in my life. We're conditioned to think that our lives revolve around great moments. But great moments often catch us unaware-beautifully wrapped in what others may consider a small one.

New year

Either you are going to become fit, lose weight, clean your house, become financially stable, or become more organized. New year resolutions summed up. As for me, I am going to skip the resolution part and continue doing what has worked for me in the past. That way I won't feel like such a loser when I break my resolve.
