blue moon

Your last chance to see a blue moon until 2015 will come around  today, but don't expect an azure hue in the sky.
In fact, " Blue Moon " refers not to color, but to rarity. Blue moons are defined as either the fourth full moon in a season, or, more recently, as the second full moon in a month. It's the second definition that covers August's blue moon; the month's first full moon was on Aug. 1.
Blue moons happen because our calendar months don't precisely sync with the moon's orbit. It takes the moon 29.5 days to wax and wane from full to new to full again. With the exception of February, months are longer than that, meaning that once in a while the timing works out so there are two full moons in one month.
Blue moons are best known from the phrase " once in a blue moon," meant to refer to something extremely rare. Two blue moons in a month aren't all that unusual, however; they occur 2.7 years apart on average, though not with great regularity. The last blue moon occurred on Dec. 31, 2009. This picture was take on Thursday night outside of my picture window.

PBVAC

We ended our weekly cruise at the Hegstads.  It is always to fun time when the men and women of car club get together.  We talked and laughed and really enjoyed each others company.  Wilda served a sherbet dessert.  It was delicious.  I plan to have them at my place the third Thursday in September.

use of the garage sale funds

half done

Finished first coat.  The second should go very fast.

Look who is back in its spot in the garage.

First Tal and I carried all the things in the garage to the steel building.  Then we  swept the garage.  Once that job was done we power washed the and mopped the garage.  Fans were set for the drying.    We set up chairs so we could watch it dry.  Then we laughed and decided that it could dry on its own.  Tal told me that a watched floor never dries.  Hopefully today I will cut in the edges with paint so that I can just roller it in when I am sure that the floor is dry.   Looks dry but you never know.  The only color I could get was grey.  But this isn't the end of this project.  Next summer I plan on taping it and then painting checker board fashion squares on the floor in a contrasting color.  Maybe red or black .  Then when car club is here at my home we can play a game of human checkers.

New minister

My church has just changed Pastors after over a year of having an fill in  pastor that came to have a special place in all of hearts.  A special goodbye to Pastor Lee.    Pastor Corey Fuhrman accepted our call to be our pastor.  Sunday was his first time at the pulpit.  Again we have someone who speaks from the heart.  No notes, understandable, and the sermon can be recalled later to apply to our lives.  I have great expectations for our church.

knitting group

My knitting group met for the last time for the summer.  We met at Yvonnes home and we enjoyed talking and preparing our self for another fall and winter of knitting for world relief. The next time we meet it will not be purely social. This summer we have meet at my home, Wilda's home, and Jan's home.   After Labor Day we will meet every Thursday and will be seriously knitting again. As apposed to our purely social summer meetings. I plan on knitting baby sweaters, and afghans this year.  We have enough prayer shawls . We do need to get strips sewn together from last year.  As you can see in the picture of the dessert we always seem to eat well when we meet.  The four outings we have had were outstanding.  This is a cheese cake with fruit and whipped cream. Yum, yum.

Dedication of the house that God built

The girls room

The boys room

My church participated in the Faith Build that Habitat for Humanity built this summer.  The dedication of the house was held on Saturday.  There were a lot of people that came.  As you can see in the pictures there is a lot of color in her house.  I just loved it and I am sure she is anxious to move in.  She cried when she expressed her gratitude to everyone for all they have given her. I love the kids rooms.  They are fanciful expressing their true character.  After all the speeches of thanks and the blessing of the home, prayers, the cake was cut.   Thirty minutes in and out.  I ran into my nephews girlfriend.  When she got her divorce from her first husband she was a recipient of a habitat house.  She came with her two children.

books, books, books

During my brothers auction we ran a book sale.  Most of the boxes that were in Texas were books.  We sold them for 50 cents to $2.00 a piece.  At the end of the auction we had these two trailers left.  As were were trying to decide what to do with them a woman approached us and asked what would we take for all the rest of the boxes.  Aaron settled on $150.  Come to find out she owned a used book store in Fargo.  We sold all the books and netted a total of $1200.  What a great thing.  All we had to do is help her load the books.

Coffee at my friends house

The four of us have been having coffee parties since I have moved back to Bemidji.  We all are classmates of old Bemidji High.  Three of us are members of Car Club and we are convincing the fourth one that she should join.  She is interested so she is coming to our next cruise night which is Thursday ending up at Hegstad's.  She served the best bread pudding.  It was made from cinnamon raisin bread with apples and a caramel sauce.   She got the recipe off the internet.  Yum, yum.

truck repair

One day they hold up the back window and then the very next time I use them they have no psi left and they won't work. I have always wondered how that can be.  I went to Napa and got replacements at $30 a pop.  But with that they were installed too.  They have 60 psi which makes them able to hold up heavy buildings.  They fairly leap up to the top when I open it.   If I am not holding on well they go up on their own.  But the best part is that I found out that the man that sold them to me and installed them was one of my classmates.  What fun.

Open your car windows

I did not write this or research this but it is a very improtant read.

CAR AIR-CONDITIONING - VERY IMPORTANT!
My car book says to roll down the windows to let out all the hot air before turning on A/C.

WHY ?
Car Air-conditioning -
No wonder more folks are dying from cancer than ever before.
We wonder where this stuff comes from but here is an
Example that explains a lot of the cancer causing incidents.

Many people are in their cars first thing in the morning and the last thing at
Night, 7 days a week.
As I read this, it makes me feel guilty and ill.
Please pass this on to as many people as possible.
Guess it’s not too late to make some changes

Car A/C (Air Conditioning) MUST READ!!!

Please do NOT turn on A/C as soon as you enter the car.
Open the windows after you enter your car and then turn ON the AC after a couple of minutes.

Here's why: According to research, the car dashboard, seats, air freshener emit Benzene, a Cancer causing toxin (carcinogen - take time to observe the smell of heated plastic in your car).

In addition to causing cancer, Benzene poisons your bones, causes anemia and reduces white blood cells. Prolonged exposure will cause Leukemia, increasing the risk of cancer. Can also cause miscarriage.
Acceptable Benzene level indoors is 50 mg per sq. Ft.
A car parked indoors with windows closed will contain 400-800 mg of Benzene.
If parked outdoors under the sun at a temperature above 60 degrees F, the Benzene level goes up to 2000-4000 mg, 40 times the acceptable level.
People who get into the car, keeping windows Closed will inevitably inhale, in quick succession, excessive amounts of the toxin.
Benzene is a toxin that affects your kidney and liver.. What's worse, it is extremely difficult for your body to expel this toxic stuff.

So friends, please open the windows and door of your car - give time for interior to air out -dispel the deadly stuff - before you enter.

My brother's auction

Tons of  work, fun and memories.  It was a long day, but the weather was just beautiful.  Along with the auction we set up a book sale.  The proceeds from that was over 700 dollars on Saturday. I sure that total will increase Sunday.   When ever the trailers got emptied we would carry more boxes of books down and refill the trailers. Before the auction a friend came and looked at the cedar that my brother had bought.  He had plans of using it to reside his cabin at Red Lake.  The pile of wood had a worth of $3000.  This friend left me in charge of buying the cedar.  I really don't like bidding for other people, but this was different.  The shop teacher from Bagley was bidding against me.  I really thought I had it at 100 dollars below my cap, but then he went right on and I stated my last bid and held me breath.  He stopped and I got the lumber.  Now I know why people like auctions so much it is trilling.  Anyway I got the bid and the shop teacher talked to me after  and told me that he had a cap of 1500 dollars.  He also said he found out I was family and that is why he stopped bidding.  He was going to put it in his basement.     As the auction proceeded a lot of people asked me what I wanted with the wood.  One I told I was going to side my house.  Another I told that I build canoes.  Someone else I told that I was building a deck.  But my best lie I told was that I was building cedar outhouses.   I can't wait for those stories to filter down to Rik and Aaron.  I warned the boys and they are ready to continue the ruse and to then tell the truth of the matter.  Another chapter of my life closed this weekend.  Getting older surely is not for sissies.
