The dragon boat races are held annually the first weekend in August. The teams get corporate sponsors to pay for expenses ($400 entry fee). They need one member to beat the drum for their cadence. There are twelve rowers. They really make it look easy, but I think that is not true. I have gone every year and watched the take off and it looks interesting. Each team sets up a tent when they have water and high protein snacks. There were over 40 teams this year. There are activities that go along with the weekend event like the corn hole contest. That is throwing bags filled with corn for the best score. All in all it is strenuous and fun.
