prayer shawl ministry

Let us pray,

Loving God, we give you thanks for the gifts of our hands, give us the grace to see out hands as you see them,  as instruments of grace and life.  May the knitting of our hands be the knitting of your heart, use out hands, O God, to carry out you works of mercy and love.  May the shawls out hands create bring blessing to those they wrap in love and healing to those upon whom they rest.

Amen

I was told a story about a man that became a catholic recently at his daughter request.  The entire family was catholic and he was baptised a protestant.  He has attended St. Philips all his life, but never changed until his daughter asked him too.  His baptism took place in southern Minnesota at his daughters church.  After the ceremony he was given a bag of goodies from the church women,  One of the items in it was a prayer schawl.  I am using his words, " the most beautiful thing he has ever seen."  He ask if he could thank the maker and was told no.  The women gladly do this ministry.  He said it was so touching and brought him to tears.

First Lutheran is also involved in the ministry of making prayer shawls.  We get many touching thank you cards.
