Polar plunge

The day started out with the pancake breakfast at the senior center.  Delicious pancakes, sausages and great conversation.  The Senior Center was decorated with Paul Bunyan black and red plaid.  I fit right in with my PB Black and red trapper hat.  I joked with someone that this is what Paul Bunyan would have looked like if he had shopped on 5th Avenue in New York City.   Does that statement bring to mind the salsa commercials.  "He's the guy who buys his salsa from new York City."

Every January Bemidji puts on the Brrrmidji polar plunge. It is in conjunction with the annual Brrrmidji Polar daze.   It is also Paul Bunyan's 75th birthday this year.  All Bemidji events all year will have that as their theme. It has been proclaimed the Year of the Legend.    This year it was January 21st.  They cut a hole in the ice and people take turns jumping in.  Last year it was bitter cold and very windy.  This year it was a one degree but not so windy.  That is to be expected in January in Minnesota.  After they enter the water they move very quickly to get out and change their clothing.  Some wear costumes.  I like the man in a tux and a gal with a formal dress on. They have two portable trailers.  The first one is where they wait to take the plunge.  The second one is to dry off and change into winter appropriate dry clothing.  This is the only event that never gets canceled because of in climate weather.  If it did get cancelled it for cold weather they would have to rename it from the Polar Plunge to the Bahama Plunge.
